New World Record Comes Home
Two Florida Brothers Survive Five Days in North Atlantic on a tiny flats boat to bring home an new Guinness World Record (TM). PR9.NET November 10, 2007 - Tampa Bay, Florida - Boat Builder, Ralph Brown and his brother Robert Brown of Merritt Island, Florida receive new world record for the "Longest Non-Stop Ocean Voyage in A Flats Boat"as certified by Guinness World Records (TM). The 774 mile voyage from St. Georges Bermuda to New York Harbor (May 9 - May 11, 2007) was the final leg of a 1547 mile voyage from Atlantic Beach, N.C. to Bermuda and then to New York Harbor. The adventurous brothers made the voyage in a 21 ft flats boat called an INTRUDER. A flats boat by definition is a single engine, low profile, open fishing boat that can operate in very shallow water. Brown's INTRUDER can operate in less than four inches of water. There is no cabin or keel. Few flats boats can safely operate in even a mild storm. The brothers were at sea for 5 days in the North Atlantic and had to endure waves of up to 8 feet and winds in excess of 30 mph. Ralph Brown made the trip to prove that his flats boat design could take heavy seas and still operate in only inches of water. Ralph is trying to establish credability for his company Dream Boats, Inc. Bob (Robert) loves adventure and joined the voyage because the previous first mate bailed out at the last minute. Bob has written a book on the trip called "The Bermuda Suicide Challenge in a flats boat."
