PR9.NET September 07, 2004 - Global Yacht Racing is providing ordinary people with a passion for adventure the opportunity to experience the ultimate challenge – ocean yacht racing. More and more ordinary people with no previous ocean racing experience are competing in tough yacht races, pitting themselves against the elements and other experienced race crews. For adventurous individuals who dream of excitement and challenge, of discovering the extreme highs and desperate lows of racing on the unforgiving oceans, Global Yacht Racing offers ocean yacht racing at a competitive level.

Global Yacht Racing's world wide racing program offers ordinary individuals the opportunity to become part of an outstanding yacht racing team, campaigning in major yacht races around the globe. It is a complete package of sailing and race training in skills for both “round the cans” and across oceans. No previous sailing experience is required.

The races and regattas entered are high profile, well known world wide events including the Rolex Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race, The Rolex Fastnet Race, Skandia Cowes week, Ford Cork Week and The Rolex Middle Sea Race. Training and racing takes place on top quality performance yachts chosen to suit each race or regatta. For example, the Global Yacht Racing entry for the 2004 Sydney to Hobart race is on a Sydney 60, a well-known design with a respected track record in Australian offshore races. Qualified and experienced skippers and crew will train, motivate and lead the team to the highest possible success.

Global Yacht Racing still has limited places onboard Eureka II for this year's Sydney to Hobart Race. If you’ve ever looked at a sleek race boat and dreamed of rising to the challenge of racing across oceans and pitting yourself against tough competition, then find out what you are truly capable of onboard one of Global Yacht Racing's race packages. Stop wondering what it's like to do the Fastnet, the Hobart, the ARC or Cork Week and Take Your Place!

Christmas festivities in Sydney would not be complete without the traditional Boxing Day start of the renowned Sydney to Hobart yacht race. Over the last 59 years it has achieved legendary status attracting more media coverage than any other annual yachting event, as much as the America’s Cup and the Volvo round the world events. The world famous race celebrates its 60th anniversary this year and with an exciting fleet lining up to take part it looks set to be spectacular.

The Global Yacht Racing campaign starts in Sydney, Australia on the 13th December. Two weeks of intensive training on the stunning Harbour will include all aspects of handling a 60 ft ocean racer. The novice crew will gain experience of intense close quarters 'round the cans' racing, peeling headsails in the impressive seas off the coast of New South Wales and gybing the enormous spinnaker. Included in the training package is a 200NM mile offshore qualifying passage, during which the team will acclimatise themselves to life on board, and gain awareness of the conditions that the ocean can spring on the unwary and unprepared.

"Without imagination there would be no ambition. Without ambition there would be no goal. Without a goal there would be nothing for which to strive. Competing in the Sydney to Hobart yacht race is the ultimate goal, the Everest of yacht races".

The Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race is one of the toughest offshore yacht races in the world. From the east coast of Australia with its classic north easterly sea breezes that drive the fleet at breakneck speeds whilst surfing under Spinnaker, to the harsh conditions often encountered in the Bass Straight, the race is no easy ride. The strong ‘Southerly Busters’ bring big winds, and even bigger seas, ensuring that crews taking part in the Hobart face 630NM of extreme sailing. Teamwork and commitment are of paramount importance.

Six hundred and thirty nautical miles of racing take you across the notorious Bass Straight, one of the most challenging and unpredictable stretches of water in the world.
