The Healing Place Names New Volunteer Coordinator
Lisa Rousseau brings event coordination backgound to nonprofit shelter and recovery center in Raleigh NC. PR9.NET July 15, 2007 - Raleigh NC - The Healing Place of Wake County has named Lisa Rousseau as the new Volunteer Coordinator. In this role she will expand the volunteer programs of the Raleigh based, seven-year-old nonprofit rescue and rehabilitation facility. Ms. Rousseau, a long-term Wake County resident, has an extensive background in both the nonprofit and for-profit arenas, with the majority of her career in the insurance industry. During an 18-year career in this industry, Ms. Rousseau held a variety of management positions and, just prior to joining The Healing Place, Ms. Rousseau was CEO of Professionally Planned Meetings, Inc., an event planning company. She previously served as Vice President of Corporate Travel at PennCorp Financial, Inc. Early in her career, Ms Rousseau pursued her education in liberal arts and received her Associates degree from El Camino College in Torrance, California. In beginning her work as Volunteer Coordinator, Ms Rousseau stated, "My key activities will be to increase our volunteer infrastructure and to continue to educate potential volunteers on the tremendous opportunities to serve the community that are available at The Healing Place. I have a strong desire to work in an organization where people give back--and The Healing Place is the perfect fit for me." Dennis Parnell, Executive Director of The Healing Place, said, "I am pleased to have Lisa join our staff, and I am excited about her organizational skills, her dedication to our mission and the enthusiasm she brings to the job." The Healing Place is dedicated to reducing homelessness and the devastating impacts of addiction. The current homeless population of Wake County is estimated to be approximately 1200, and on any given night over 200 of those individuals are sheltered and active in the Healing Place's recovery program. The recovery and rehabilitation program is focused on "Helping People Find Their Way Back" from homelessness and addiction to becoming a contributing member of society. This journey to recovery is based on a peer-run, 12-step-based program that has demonstrated a success rate of over 70 percent for their clients. # # #

About The Healing Place The Healing Place of Wake County is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) recovery and rehabilitation facility for homeless people with alcohol and drug dependency. The Men’s Center opened its doors in January, 2001, and the Women’s Center began operation in January, 2006. As of January, 2007, over 6200 men and women have been provided with more than 360,000 beds of shelter. We have also provided thousands of recovery classes and meetings. The Healing Place offers a shelter, a social detox, and a recovery program all at a cost of less than $30 per day for each resident. Approximately 70% of the graduates from our program, with a year of post-discharge sobriety, are still sober. The Healing Place of Wake County is built on the principles of the highly successful “Healing Place in Louisville, KY,” which received the 1998 US Department of Health Resources and Service Administration “Models That Work Award” in recognition of the success of the program.
