Incumbent Prince George's County Executive Jack B. Johnson has been accused of lying by well-known political analyst Mark Plotkin. Other sources state this is but one action amongst a slew of unethical activities by Jack Johnson, which if found true, do not bode well for his re-election in Tuesday's September 12th Democratic primary.

PR9.NET September 09, 2006 - Upper Marlboro, MD – Plotkin's scathing comment was an unexpected blow to Johnson's character from such a public figure. In response to a no-show for a debate on Washington Post Radio, Johnson stated that he "didn't know anything about a debate." Plotkin publicly called Johnson's response "a categorical lie" and stated that he "doesn't believe that for a second."

The attack came on the heels of an August 6th Washington Post story that documented Johnson's awarding of $3.3 million in lucrative contracts to friends who had little or no qualifications to do the work.

Recently, Wayne Curry, Jack Johnson's predecessor as Prince George's County Executive, publicly snubbed and openly attacked Johnson as he endorsed Johnson's opponent, Rushern Baker. Curry stated, "'With Rushern in office, we can resume a position of pride. We can shed the feeling of embarrassment." Curry also blasted Johnson as "the imperial elite."

Johnson has often been accused of taking credit for projects initiated by Curry.

Local activists have started calling for Jack Johnson's resignation as Prince George's County Executive and are demanding an investigation into Johnson's administration based on the numerous complaints about cronyism, solicitation of bribes, mistreatment of county employees, and misuse of county funds and resources.

A representative for Citizens for Honesty and Integrity in Prince George's County (CHIPGC) said, "Jack Johnson's reign over Prince George's County has been rife with suspicious firings and transfers of Prince George's County employees, cronyism, abuse of power and outright lying. He needs to take the high road and resign or get his ducks in a row for an inevitable criminal investigation."

Critics say Prince George's County has suffered as a result of Johnson's bad judgment in making appointments as evidenced by the rise in crime, ineffective schools, complaints of employee mistreatment, and the conviction of two Johnson appointees on bribery and corruption charges.

Some examples of unfair practices against Prince George's County employees from Johnson appointees that have harmed the County:

1) Carolyn Scriber, Director of the County's Office of Central Services was fired approximately a year before her retirement and replaced by Pamela Piper, daughter of Jack Johnson's fourth grade teacher. Johnson then appoints Robert L. Thomas as Piper's Deputy Director. On August 23, 2006, Thomas is convicted of bribery and conspiracy to commit bribery as part of a scheme to steer a county contract in exchange for $250,000.

2) Betty Hager Francis, Director of Public Works and Transportation, famous in Prince George's County government for her dedication and know-how in handling her job, is unceremoniously fired with a phone call on Easter Sunday so that another Johnson appointee can take her place.

3) An employee from the Department of Environmental Resources (DER) filed a complaint against Jack Johnson appointee and DER Director Donna Wilson. The complaint is turned over to the Office of Human Resources Management (OHRM) to investigate. Against County policy and procedures, an OHRM official gives Wilson a copy of the transcripts of confidential OHRM interviews with employees. Wilson then sets out on a campaign to systematically transfer or fire the employees who provided testimony about her abuses.

4) Another DER employee files a formal complaint against Jack Johnson appointee Byron McReynolds, alleging physical assault. Deputy Director Larnell Exum conducts an investigation and determines that McReynolds is at fault. Exum is fired.

"Time and time again, Jack Johnson has acted out of selfishness to protect and enhance his own political interests to the detriment of the citizens and employees of Prince George's County," stated a CHIPGC spokesman. "It is time for him to go."
