Mondovi Wounded Navy Seabee Honored with Free Bed for Military Service and Injuries
Petty Officer First Class Dean Berlin of Mondovi to be presented with new Craftmatic® Adjustable Bed because of extensive injuries sustained in Iraq. PR9.NET April 07, 2008 - Mondovi, WI - Petty Officer First Class Dean Berlin, U.S. Navy, (Ret.) was stationed in Western Iraq in 2006 with the Unit Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 25, or the Navy Seabees 25. He was severely injured when his vehicle ran over an IED on June 5th of that year, and sustained multiple fractured vertebrae; fractured lumbar's one, two and three; and also incurred multiple fractures in his shoulder area. "After my injury I was transported to Germany and then on to San Diego, at the Balboa Naval Medical Center to recover," remembered Berlin. "Now due to my injuries, I am temporarily retired, which means that in 18 months I will be re-evaluated to see if I am once again fit for duty." Berlin says that since his injury, he has had trouble getting to sleep at night and seems to wake up feeling not as rested as he used to. "We got a new mattress six months ago to try and help me sleep better, but it just doesn't seem to help." A recent 2007 survey states that 92.3% of severely wounded veterans have reported having trouble sleeping upon returning home. Craftmatic is hoping to combat this problem through Craftmatic Cares, a program that donates one adjustable bed a week to severely wounded veterans from the War on Terror. Berlin just learned that he will be this week's winner. "I am extremely excited to receive my new Craftmatic bed," Berlin said. "I am hoping that by being able to sleep upright, it might help ease the pain and enable me to sleep more soundly." Craftmatic beds have proven to help those with severe injuries get more comfortable and sleep deeply through the night. "Craftmatic is very honored to donate this week's bed to Petty Officer First Class Dean Berlin," said Eric Kraftsow, Elevation Bed, LLC owners of the Craftmatic trademark. "The Craftmatic Cares program was designed as a way for the company to give back to those who have given so much of themselves for our freedom. Dean Berlin has had trouble getting to sleep since he has returned from Iraq, and we hope that once he receives his new bed he will wake up fully rested."
