Saint Barnabas Health Care System Selects Sentri7 to Improve Patient Safety by Combining Existing IT Systems
Sentri7 to combine real-time data necessary for clinicians to make well-informed decisions about patient care in a timely manner.
PR9.NET February 21, 2008 - Bellevue, Wash. - The Saint Barnabas Health Care System has joined the growing list of hospitals that want to get the most out of existing IT investments by combining their laboratory, pharmacy and patient data through Sentri7 by Pharmacy OneSource. Saint Barnabas purchased a three-year Sentri7 subscription for all six of its member hospitals.
With Sentri7, clinicians have a single point of access to lab results, medication records and patient demographics, data that currently reside in different systems. Clinicians can write rules against the data to identify and flag at-risk patients.
"We recently purchased Sentri7 surveillance to augment our antibiotic stewardship and anticoagulant management programs. The Sentri7 program is critical to the prospective analysis of patients' information to impact change while the patient is still in our institution," said Robert T. Adamson, Corporate Director of Clinical Pharmacy Services at Saint Barnabas Health Care System. "We will expand our programs to other diseases and laboratory values as the possibilities are endless. The excitement this product has generated within our pharmacy departments and health system is palpable."
The hospital system will also use the Sentri7 software to help avoid hospital-associated infections. Sentri7 can compare patients who are infected with a certain strain of bacteria to their currently-prescribed antibiotic to make sure they are getting the most effective drug, and can flag patients who acquire a resistant strain like MRSA.
Sentri7 will help the hospital system comply with national standards set by the government and hospital accreditation bodies. For example, the program can flag patients who have had a heart attack and check to ensure they are taking aspirin, statins or other preventative treatments required by The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
"We are very excited that the Saint Barnabas Health Care System has chosen to implement Sentri7," said Keith Streckenbach, MBA, Executive Vice President of Pharmacy OneSource. "We look forward to working with Saint Barnabas to help them improve their medication management programs, ultimately improving patient safety and outcomes."
