An increasingly-popular startup Internet radio company avoids RIAA royalty rate hike adversely affecting traditional Internet radio stations by streaming high quality music from unsigned and independent musicians.

PR9.NET March 21, 2007 - Jacksonville, FL - A new musician resource is utilizing streaming Internet radio technology to pair up-and-coming musical artists with new fans while avoiding the proposed RIAA Internet radio royalty rate hikes that stand to threaten traditional Internet radio service providers.

NewMuz(SM) Internet Radio (http://www.newmuz.com) collects, stores, and streams music that is submitted directly by musicians who certify that they own and control the copyrights to their music. "One-hundred percent of our streamed content is user-submitted pursuant to a legal agreement which gives our company a non-exclusive license to use the artists' material," said James Anderson, founder of Jacksonville, Florida-based Spirit of Radio LLC which owns and develops NewMuz. "Because it is against our policy to distribute copyrighted material owned by major record labels, we can deliver quality content to our listeners while operating with significantly less overhead than traditional, major market Internet radio systems which will likely be significantly burdened by the recently-approved hike in streaming Internet music royalty rates."

A March 2 ruling by U.S. Copyright Royalty Judges imposed a new schedule of royalty rates for music streamed over the Internet through 2010. National Public Radio has filed a formal appeal with the U.S. Copyright Office to protest the rate increase.

NewMuz, which launched in late February 2007, allows listeners to tune into format-specific music channels featuring music from unsigned and independent musical artists. Listeners are given the option to rate songs as they play in order to help determine the character of the station's playlists. "Ultimately, our listeners ensure that NewMuz delivers quality content," said Anderson. "Our system utilizes a proprietary song scoring algorithm to aggregate the ratings information that we get from our listeners so that our most popular, highest quality content receives the greatest amount of exposure."
