Harvey Fuqua to appear at Doo-Wop Festival in Vegas
Doo-Wop and Motown legend Harvey Fuqua will perform at this year's 2nd Annual "Cool Bobby B Doo Wop Convention" in Las Vegas. PR9.NET October 09, 2007 - Cincinnati, OH – Doo-Wop and Motown legend Harvey Fuqua will make a rare public appearance and performance with his band The Moonglows, at this year's 2nd Annual "Cool Bobby B Doo Wop Convention" in Las Vegas. The convention will allow attendees to interact with Fuqua and other Doo Wop greats over the course of 2 days, November 16th & 17th. Every music fan worth their pop history probably hears some song on the radio every day that's connected to, or influenced by write-singer-producer-musician Harvey Fuqua. A founding member of the much-admired Moonglows, the premiere vocal group at Chicago's legendary Chess Records in the '50s, Harvey's writing and arranging, as well as his engaging baritone, set a new standard. He is noted for being one of the key figures in the development of the Motown label in Detroit, Michigan: his doo-wop group gave Marvin Gaye his start in his career, and he and his wife Gwen Gordy distributed the very first Motown hit single, Barrett Strong's "Money (That's What I Want)", on their record label, Anna Records. "Harvey Fuqua is legendary, and hardly ever does performances," said Cool Bobby B "hearing him sing, and then being able to talk to him after the show… you can only do that one place." Cool Bobby B is referring to his Vegas-returning Doo-Wop Convention at the Alexis Park Hotel. Cool Bobby B's Doo Wop Stop, is syndicated on local radio stations throughout the United States and is also available through XM Satellite Radio. Though he is currently based out of Cincinnati, the introduction to his program suggests that when he was a youth in Pennsylvania in the 1950s, he ended up on the wanted list after he broke into a radio station and illegally cranked up the transmitter power to a million watts so he could air his doo-wop records to be heard throughout the eastern portion of the United States. The doo-wop weekend begins with a reception at 6:30 p.m. November 16th, where fans can meet and mingle with artists at a reception and sock hop. From 12 p.m. until 2 p.m. November 17th, there will be a private autograph session, an amateur doo-wop contest and other events. At 7 p.m. there will be a finale concert. Among the dozens of groups scheduled to attend the event are Harvey Fuqua And The Moonglows ("Sincerely"); The Fleetwoods ("Mr.Blue"); Lewis Lymon ("I'm So Happy"); Jimmy Castor ("I Promise to Remember"); The Edsels Featuring The Reynolds Brothers ("Rama Lama Ding Dong"); Philly Cuzz ("One Summer Night"), The Capris ("There's a Moon Out Tonight"), The Elegants ("Little Star"), and many more.
