In WCPE's fall program guide, Quarter Notes, Preview! host Deana Vassar and Great Sacred Music host Ken Hoover review recent CD releases by Maestro Simon Rattle.

PR9.NET August 30, 2007 - WAKE FOREST, N.C. WCPE announces that its fall program guide, Quarter Notes, features CD reviews of Maestro Simon Rattle's recent releases from Preview! host Deana Vassar and Great Sacred Music host Ken Hoover.

In Quarter Notes,Vassar and Hoover review Anton Bruckner: Symphony No. 4 "Romantic" and Johannes Brahms: Ein Deutsches Requiem respectively. Both offer praise to Rattle, reversing the criticism he has received since his appointment as the principal conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic in 2002.

"In recent years, Maestro Rattle has faced tremendous criticism of his work with the Berlin Philharmonic," says Vassar. "Hopefully, the two stunning CD releases from BPO with Rattle at the helm will quell his nay-sayers."

Vassar and Hoover's remarks are featured in the "Lately We've Heard" section of the program guide. This section of Quarter Notes reviews recent CD releases from celebrated classical composers, conductors and performers.

"It is a wonder of balance and precision," says Hoover in his review of the Brahms CD. "The dynamics are astonishingly controlled by Rattle. Crescendos and diminuendos maintain balance and control from top to bottom."

Quarter Notes is published four times a year to enhance appreciation and understanding of classical music. Print copies are sent to individuals and firms who contribute financial support.
