San Diego's "Bad Girls of Craft" Meet to Share Weird and Wonderful Creations
"Kitch" is king for new offbeat crafting group. PR9.NET October 11, 2005 - SAN DIEGO, CA -- Where can you see books made out of Pop-Tart boxes, hand-sewn felt bug dolls, Herman Munster necklaces, and miniature shrines to Martha Stewart? You can find all this and more at the San Diego DIY Crafters meetup, where offbeat crafters join to share their strange and wonderful creations every month. "We're like the bad girls of craft," says Nicole Yost, who coordinates the get togethers, "We're all into making very different stuff, but each one of us is a bit left-of-center. It's a wonderfully eclectic group." The group meets in Mission Valley but is open to all crafters in the San Diego area, including North County and the South Bay. The kitch-loving crafters meet monthly to show off new creations, swap information about local happenings, and to plan future events. "Right now we're planning a DIY craft fair for 2006," says Yost. Details about the group's meetings and events can be found online at www.SanDiegoCraft.com. The group was started when Yost, a rubber stamp artist who designs and sells a line of punk and tattoo-themed rubber stamps at www.astaarts.com met fellow local artist Jeaneen Benson online. Benson sells unusual handcrafted bags and wallets at www.yattabags.com. "We were both on a lot of the same crafting sites, and were excited about meeting other folks with similar interests," says Yost, "I don't think either of us expected to find so many cool creative folks in our area." The San Diego DIY Crafters can be found online at www.SanDiegoCraft.com. The website has photos, information about upcoming events, and details about how to join the group. # # #
