Highlight Videos Preserve the Past for the Future
In towns all across America, local high school football is a passionate affair shared by the entire community but some of the best moments of that experience are being discarded because they are thought to have no future value PR9.NET September 15, 2004 - As part of the overall game plan, most coaches video tape their games and review them later to analyze the plays and gain insight into their team’s performance. These tapes are for the most part erased after the season is over to be re-used during the next season. In some cases they are just erased and re-used on a weekly basis. The tapes or DVDs are in turn viewed during banquets and kept as mementos by the players and the coach. A master copy can be archived by the school to refer to in the future. Besides it’s entertainment value, highlight tapes also provide a valuable historic resource for developing new talent and can be an effective morale booster and inspiring educational tool. Who wouldn’t like to sit down and watch a Barry Sanders’ high school football highlight tape? Was he that good back then? Or did a coach see the latent talent and nurture it? Tom Conner, the owner of ASV and a veteran documentarian and music producer, got the idea from his son Andrew who was on his high school wrestling team at John Glen High School in Westland, Michigan. He was also taking a video-editing course at John Glen’s Voctech High School. "Drew shows up one day with this highlight video he put together for his wrestling team’s banquet and it blew my mind. At first I thought is was some kind of ESPN music video but realized within a minute or two that it wasn’t because I saw Drew in it." Conner said. The pair decided to establish a new imprint through the senior Conner’s company, TCL Communications, Inc and All Sports Videos.com (ASV) was born in 2002 when the pair launched a website www.allsportsvideos.com offering their services for the sole purpose of creating highlight videos for high schools sports. The production cost for a highlight video varies between $300.00 for a short version about 10 minutes or less in length to $750.00 for a 30 minute long version. Even at these low prices, schools sometimes have funding issues because sports budgets are tight however; there are some unique ways to finance a highlight video. Sponsorships by local businesses or community boosters are one way. The sponsor pays the cost of editing in exchange for a screen credit and perhaps a message or inclusion of his or her own TV spot. ASV most recently completed a highlight video for the St Augustine Wolves the 2003 Texas State Champions. # # #
