Digital River Launches Branded, Try-Before-You-Buy E-Commerce Site for Chicago Sun-Times
Digital River, Inc. (NASDAQ: DRIV), a global leader in e-commerce outsourcing, today announced that it signed an e-commerce agreement with Digital Chicago, Inc., the parent of the Chicago Sun-Times Online. Based on the agreement, Digital River built an online store of try-before-you-buy (TBYB) software titles for Chicago Sun-Times' readers. The new site, accessible via www.suntimes.com , features Digital River's trialware library, which represents a collection of TBYB software titles from small and large publishers, including computer utilities, games, and business, graphic and Internet applications. The TBYB titles are available for download, trial usage and online purchase.
PR9.NET January 14, 2004 - "During the past ten years, we have successfully established relationships with and managed the e-commerce operations for thousands of software publishers. Now we are building upon that success and creating more online opportunities for our clients by expanding our e-commerce network with a new trialware channel," said Joel Ronning, Digital River's CEO. "Adding an industry-leading publisher like Chicago Sun Times to our trialware channel is an important indicator of the progress we are making as we extend into the trialware space."
The Chicago Sun-Times' trialware site is designed to reflect the publisher's unique brand. Users visiting the site are able to browse through an online library of TBYB software titles, download programs for a free limited trial and then later buy the title online via a convenient in-application purchase page. Digital River not only hosts the site, but also handles payment processing, fraud, customer service, reporting and digital downloads.
"As a Digital River trialware channel partner, we look forward to providing our customers with a fresh, new value-added product offering and another reason to frequent our site," said John Cary, president of Digital Chicago. "Digital River's trialware channel not only provides our loyal user-base with a rich resource of TBYB software titles, but also helps us attract new customers, expand our market opportunities, and generate incremental revenue streams."
Digital River's trialware channel provides important economic incentives for content publishers, portal sites and online retailers. By offering its channel partners a ready-made software library that they can resell online, Digital River can help them quickly expand their online product selections and ultimately generate increased traffic and incremental software sales and advertising revenue on their e-commerce sites. Digital River's trialware channel also offers expanded market opportunities for trialware authors. By adding their TBYB titles to Digital River's established online library, publishers and authors can gain access to multiple online outlets and, as a result, generate a level of increased product exposure with prospective customers that otherwise would be difficult to obtain on their own.
