Website Takes Podcasts to Mass Audience through Print-Based Format; Old Media Delivery of New Media Content.

PR9.NET July 23, 2007 - Beaconsfield, UK - Podcasting has opened new ways to consume content – listeners report using their morning commute or time spent mowing the lawn to catch up on Napoleonic history or get the latest movie-related news and comment. But much of this content is created specifically for podcast and never reaches a mass audience accustomed to reading magazines and newspapers. This is the insight of new website Pods in Print, which has established a database of podcast transcripts and given consumers a choice to listen, read or both.

Podcasting is an example of user-generated content; few podcasters are professional broadcasters. Affordable sound equipment and widespread penetration of broadband internet access has allowed individuals to publish increasing amounts of valuable audio content, often unavailable in other forms. Such content includes interviews with leading thinkers, public lectures or the proceedings of conferences.

Pods in Print produces transcripts of podcasts and offers them as a database on its site. Readers may access the database by free trial or with a paid subscription. The transcripts are verbatim records of the podcast material produced in printable form – old media delivery enabling an audience unfamiliar with podcast technology to access new media content.

Pods in Print founder Tom Price commented "Transcripts of podcast are more readily quoted in print-based mass media through which we can introduce a new audience to the content. Establishing a central place on the web for podcast transcripts means our readers can be assured of a quality transcript at great value and our podcasters can gain wider exposure." He went on to state that as inclusion of podcast transcripts within the database is user-driven the site acts to aggregate the best podcast content.
