An engineered wood, lumber, and component company, Homestead Building Systems primarily produces wall panel and turnkey packages for custom builders, production builders, and apartment builders. The company previously used several software systems to manage the business, which led to data integrity issues, according to CFO Steve Dougherty.
"With data distributed across multiple systems, it was difficult to ensure that data was accurate and reliable throughout our operation. Changes made in sales orders weren't automatically made in scheduling, for example," Dougherty says.
In March of 2008, Homestead Building Systems began looking for an integrated accounting and ERP software system that is designed specifically for the panel manufacturing and construction industry.
Dougherty explains the company's search criteria: "It was important to us that a software system be able to natively handle our unique manufacturing processes, link to our IBS engineering system for complete data integration, and collect time and labor information for job costing. We didn't want to be a guinea pig for a software company."
The DEACOM System was selected by Homestead Building Systems based on its fulfillment of the company's search criteria and its ability to link all areas of the business, including sales order entry, scheduling, Material Requirements Planning (MRP), production, time and labor collection, inventory control, purchasing, and accounting, in one system.
Homestead Building Systems is scheduled to go live on the DEACOM ERP System in October of 2008.
