Ford Motor Co. is offering 0 percent financing on the Ford Escape Hybrid for the first time ever.
Buyers in California and Washington, D.C., can finance the Escape Hybrid for no interest for 60 months. The offer begins Wednesday and runs through April 3.

California and Washington, D.C., are Ford's two hottest hybrid markets, Ford spokesman Monte Doran said. "The real purpose is that we are continuing to raise awareness of the Escape hybrid," he added.

The 0-percent offer cannot be combined with any of those other incentives.

Buyers in California and Washington can pick either zero-percent financing or rebates on the Escape Hybrid, which runs on both a traditional engine and a battery-powered motor, Doran said. The offer, which began on March 16th , ends in three weeks.

The Ford Escape Hybrid became even more popular last year after it won the 2005 North American Truck of the Year award. It's currently the cleanest, most economical hybrid SUV, and the powertrain provides performance on par with a V6 engine.

The hybrid drivetrain uses a 2.3-liter, four-cylinder gasoline engine in conjunction with electric motors to provide power while keeping emissions and fuel usage to a minimum. Under full acceleration, both power sources work together to provide maximum vigor, but under lighter load conditions, such as stop-and-go traffic, the Escape Hybrid alternates between the two, oftentimes running purely on battery power alone.

A regenerative braking system converts energy normally lost as heat into electricity to recharge the car's batteries. Available in either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, the Escape Hybrid boasts V6-like acceleration and gets up to 36 mpg.
