For 2006 the Pontiac G6 sedan comes standard with a four-cylinder engine at ($17,865), but is available with the V6 for ($19,065). The high-performance GTP is available as a sedan for ($23,065), coupe at ($22,865), or hard op convertible for ($29,365). The GTP features its own special 3.9-liter V6 engine and higher-capacity 4T65-E four-speed automatic transaxle. A manual six-speed wide-ratio transaxle is optional on GTP sedan and coupe models.

The 2006 Pontiac G6 hardtop convertible offers customers open-air driving, as well as the security and refinement of a coupe. Both the coupe and convertible deliver 2+2 seating suitable for four adults. This was enabled by the G6's class-leading 112.3-inch (2852 mm) wheelbase, which stretches the wheels to the vehicle corners and allows for increased rear-seat legroom.

"The G6 coupe and convertible are uniquely Pontiac vehicles that are great additions to the family started by the G6 sedan," said Jim Bunnell, Pontiac-GMC general manager. "The G6 coupe delivers outstanding performance and generous interior room, and the G6 is the only hardtop convertible that has room for four adults."

Safety features on all trims include driver and passenger front airbags and seatbelts with pretentioners. Optional are side-impact air bags and head curtain airbags and anti-lock brakes packaged with traction control. Basic traction assist is available on the base model, full-spectrum traction control on the GT, and traction control with the GM/Delphi Stabilitrak chassis control system will be available on the GTP. OnStar and Stabilitrak act as ideal safety features to summon help or to avoid a wreck.
