The Renaissance Charleston Hotel, located in the historic district of downtown Charleston is known for its deep roots in South Carolina, as well as its superior commitment to quality. The AAA Four Diamond Award is presented to those hotel properties that have earned excellent ratings during inspections conducted by AAA professionals. "This award signifies that a property has met AAA's objective rating criteria and met levels of excellence during extensive inspections," said the Auto Club's Approved Accommodations Manager Charles Smith.

The lodging inspections take place once a year and consist of an unannounced inspection and one overnight visit. The AAA inspectors review as well as rate properties in relation to the following criteria: ambiance and amenities, bathrooms, grounds and public areas, guest rooms, housekeeping and maintenance, room décor, management, staff, & guest services.

After the inspections, properties that meet all the requirements are rated between one to five diamonds. "The AAA Four Diamond status represents a profound effort and extraordinary accomplishment by a hotel," said Charles Smith. Currently, less than three percent of an estimated 25,000 AAA rated lodgings attain the Four Diamond status.
